Allison Smith: SMITHS
At multiple locations
An ongoing project by local artist Allison Smith, SMITHS is inspired by the history of general stores as intimate spaces of public exchange. By looking to the past, Smith hopes to identify useful models for creative practice in the present, particularly in times of war and economic uncertainty. During the anniversary weekend, the fifth-floor galleries will feature two SMITHS initiatives: a vibrant, immersive light and sound installation titled Fancy Work and a series of participatory programs engaging civilians and soldiers that marks the launch of Smith's Arts & Skills Service, a project that will continue throughout the spring at SFMOMA and the War Memorial Veterans Building.
For more information about the SMITHS project at SFMOMA, visit Allison Smith's website.
